What this service covers

  • Documents: civil, identity, police, academic, employment and financial evidence requested for an Australian immigration or citizenship matter.
  • Medical evidence: vaccination records, medical reports and doctor’s certificates are handled on our medical document translation page.
  • Issued in: China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan and other jurisdictions confirmed at quote stage.
  • Language direction: source language into English.
  • Receiver and use: Department of Home Affairs or another named receiver; translation helps it read evidence for the nominated application.
  • Your next step: upload every relevant page, passport spelling, issuing country, language, application type, receiver and deadline. We confirm price and delivery before work starts.

Three real submission scenarios

  1. Partner or family application: translated civil-status and relationship documents support evidence requested in the applicant’s checklist.
  2. Skilled or student pathway: translated qualifications, employment, identity or financial documents support the specific assessment or visa evidence requested.
  3. Citizenship or character evidence: translated birth, name-change or police documents help the receiver read non-English records when requested.

Boundary: translation does not guarantee acceptance or approval. The receiver decides documents, pages, originals, certified copies and formats. Translation is not Notary Public work, a certified copy, JP witnessing, an affidavit, DFAT Apostille or Authentication.

What Are the Translation Requirements for Australian Immigration?

The Department of Home Affairs requires English translations of non-English documents. If you are in Australia, include the translator’s NAATI practitioner number. If you are outside Australia, include the translator’s full name, address, telephone number and qualifications in the language they are translating. Translate the documents required for your application; the exact evidence depends on the visa or citizenship pathway and your checklist.

A translation helps the decision-maker read the source document; it does not itself prove authenticity, eligibility or approval. Missing, incomplete or incorrectly prepared evidence may lead Home Affairs to request more information or decide the application on the material provided. Check the current official checklist before submission.

Examples of Non-English Documents by Application Type

Translate the non-English documents that your application checklist or Home Affairs asks you to submit. The examples below show the document types we can translate; they are not a compulsory checklist for every applicant. Submit the source documents together with their English translations.

Common Immigration Documents — Translation Guide

Police Clearance Certificate Translation (No Criminal Record)

A police clearance certificate needs an English translation when the certificate you are submitting is not in English. This applies to non-English certificates from China, Taiwan, Malaysia and other countries; the issuing country alone does not decide whether translation is needed. We provide NAATI certified English translation of non-English police certificates for skilled migration, partner visa and citizenship evidence. Same day delivery. Contact WeChat au12312 to order.

Household Registration (户口簿) Translation

The Chinese household registration booklet (户口簿) is an important document for family reunion visas and partner visas to prove family relationships. Translate the pages that contain information relevant to the requested evidence, unless the receiving checklist or officer asks for the complete document. Same day delivery. Contact WeChat au12312 to order.

Change of Name Certificate Translation

If an applicant has changed their name and the application asks for evidence of that change, the source document and an English translation may need to be submitted. Commonly required for Taiwan household registration (户籍謄本) or China Public Security Bureau name change certificates. Same day delivery.

Divorce Certificate Translation

A divorce certificate may be requested where previous marital status is relevant. If it is not in English, prepare the source document and English translation in the format requested for that application. Same day delivery. Contact WeChat au12312 to order.

Documents by Country of Issue

We provide NAATI certified translation for immigration documents issued by the following countries and regions:

✔ China (mainland) documents → View guidance
✔ Taiwan documents → View guidance
✔ Malaysian documents → View guidance
✔ Indonesia, Japan and other countries → Contact us to confirm

Regardless of where your documents were issued, if they are required for Australian immigration or visa purposes, NAATI certified translation is available.

What Must a NAATI Certified Translation Include?

For an Australian immigration submission, use the current Home Affairs translation guidance and check that the translation identifies the translator and the source document. A NAATI-certified translation commonly includes:

✔ Full translation of all content (including seals, stamps and registration numbers)
✔ NAATI certification statement
✔ Translator’s NAATI practitioner number
✔ Translator’s name, signature and date

📌 English names must match your passport. Please provide your passport photo page when ordering to ensure name consistency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is NAATI certified translation required for Australian immigration?
A: Home Affairs requires English translations of non-English documents. If you are in Australia, include the translator’s NAATI practitioner number. If you are outside Australia, include the translator’s full name, address, telephone number and qualifications in the language they are translating. Follow the document checklist for your application.

Q: What documents need to be translated for a partner visa in Australia?
A: For a partner visa (subclasses 820, 801, 309 and 100), translate the non-English documents you need to submit. Examples include identity evidence such as birth certificates and non-English passport pages; relationship evidence such as marriage certificates and family relationship records; financial evidence such as bank statements; and name-change or divorce documents where relevant. These are examples, not documents required from every applicant. Submit the source documents and English translations requested for your application.

Q: What documents need to be translated for skilled migration in Australia?
A: For skilled migration visas (subclasses 189, 190 and 491), translate the non-English evidence requested for your application. Examples include academic transcripts, graduation certificates, birth certificates, police clearance certificates, marriage certificates and employment records. The required documents depend on your application checklist; not every applicant needs every item.

Q: Does immigration document translation need to be notarised?
A: Translation and notarisation are different services. A NAATI translation does not equal a certified copy, JP witnessing, affidavit, Notary Public notarisation, DFAT Apostille or Authentication. Whether another step is required depends on the source document, application checklist and receiving institution.

Q: How long does immigration document translation take?
A: Same day delivery upon payment. Digital PDF sent to your email. Optional hardcopy delivery: add AUD $2 for Australia Post standard mail (2-6 business days) or AUD $10 for express delivery. Contact WeChat au12312 or phone 0424 927 923.

Q: Can multiple immigration documents be translated at the same time?
A: Yes. We can process multiple documents simultaneously. Pricing is calculated per document type. Submit all your documents at once to save time. Contact WeChat au12312 for a complete quote.

Q: Does a police clearance certificate need NAATI translation for Australian immigration?
A: A police clearance certificate needs an English translation if it is not in English. The issuing country alone does not determine this: certificates from China, Taiwan, Malaysia and other countries must be checked for their language and the requested evidence. We provide NAATI certified translation of non-English police certificates for Australian immigration applications. Same day delivery. Contact WeChat au12312 to order.

Q: Do I need to send original documents for translation?
A: We can translate from complete, clear photos or scans. That does not prove the copy is genuine and does not replace an original or certified copy when Home Affairs or another receiver asks for one.

ABC Translation Australia has completed NAATI certified translation services for tens of thousands of clients since the company was founded in 2013. In line with the official NAATI standards, certified translations must be completed by a NAATI Certified Translator.
