Original/copy boundary: a clear colour photo or scan is normally enough for us to translate. The receiving institution may still require the original, a certified copy, every page, a reverse side, a Notary Public, DFAT Apostille or Authentication, or consular processing.

What is a NAATI-certified translation?

NAATI is Australia’s national standards and certifying authority for translators and interpreters. A translation completed by a currently certified translator normally identifies the translator, certification details, language direction and date. Check the practitioner’s CPN using the official NAATI certification verification service.

Common Australian receiving institutions and uses

Department of Home Affairs: visa, migration, citizenship, identity and relationship evidence.
State or territory transport authority: overseas driving, licence records or a licence application, subject to local rules.
University, school or assessment body: enrolment, qualification, transcript or skills evidence.
Court, lawyer, bank, insurer or government service: document-specific legal, financial, identity or administrative evidence.
Overseas institution: an Australian document translated into Chinese, sometimes with separate notarial, DFAT or consular steps.

The Department of Home Affairs tells applicants to provide English translations of non-English documents. For translations completed in Australia, the translation should include the translator’s NAATI practitioner number. Driving licences

Common prices include China and Taiwan driving licences from AUD $20, Hong Kong and Macau licences from AUD $30, and Malaysia licences from AUD $46. When driving, carry the valid original overseas licence together with the English translation or IDP required by the relevant state or territory. A translation does not itself decide driving or licence-transfer eligibility.

Identity and family documents

Birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates, passports, identity cards, household registrations, single-status documents and police clearances can support identity, relationship, visa, citizenship, estate, banking or other tasks. The receiver decides which document and version is relevant.

Academic and employment documents

Degrees, graduation certificates, transcripts, enrolment records, employment letters and professional documents may be requested by a school, university, employer, skills-assessment body or licensing authority. Send all pages and any grading, seal or reverse-side information.

Medical and other documents

Medical records, reports, vaccination evidence, contracts, statements and other documents require a document-specific quote. Do not send unnecessary sensitive pages; ask the receiver what evidence it needs first.

Translation is not notarisation, a certified copy or an Apostille

A NAATI-certified translation identifies the translation and translator. A certified copy verifies a copy against an original. A Notary Public performs notarial work. DFAT issues Apostilles or Authentications for eligible Australian public documents. A consulate or overseas institution may impose further steps. These services are separate and one does not automatically replace another.

Correction and refund guarantee

If a receiving institution states in writing that our translation does not meet its NAATI translation format requirements, 澳洲ABC翻译（ABC Translation） will correct the translation at no charge. If that issue still cannot be resolved, we refund the translation fee paid for that document.

This guarantee does not cover application eligibility, a problem with the source original, incomplete materials, a requirement for a certified copy, Notary Public, DFAT Apostille or Authentication, consular processing, or another service not included in the order. Acceptance of a translation does not mean the visa, licence or other application will be approved.
