澳洲ABC翻译(ABC Translation Australia) provides English translations of non-English marriage certificates for Australian applications, and Chinese translations of Australian marriage certificates for overseas use. The correct translation direction, certification, original-document requirement and supporting evidence depend on the issuing country, receiving institution and actual application.

Document, issuing country, language and receiving institution

Document and issuer Language direction Common receiving institution Actual use
Mainland China marriage certificate (结婚证) Simplified Chinese → English Department of Home Affairs, courts, banks or another Australian institution Partner/family visa evidence, name or marital-status evidence, and institution-specific legal or financial matters
Taiwan marriage certificate or household-registration marriage record Traditional Chinese → English Department of Home Affairs, courts, banks or another Australian institution Partner/family visa evidence, name or marital-status evidence, and institution-specific matters
Australian marriage certificate English → Simplified or Traditional Chinese Chinese or Taiwanese authority, notary, bank, court or other overseas institution Household registration, property, inheritance, banking or another process specified by the receiving institution
Marriage certificate from another country Source language → English or Chinese Australian or overseas institution named by the customer The institution-specific application stated before quoting

A translation explains the source document in another language. It does not establish that a marriage is legally valid, prove identity by itself, or guarantee acceptance or an application outcome.

Three common submission scenarios

1. Australian partner or family visa

The Department of Home Affairs lists marriage certificates among family-visa relationship documents and instructs applicants to translate non-English documents into English. For a translation completed in Australia, the translated document should include the translator’s NAATI practitioner number. Submit the source document and translation in the format requested in ImmiAccount or the relevant document checklist.

2. Australian divorce or court filing

The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia has a specific Affidavit Translation of Marriage Certificate process for divorce applications involving a non-English marriage certificate. That process includes the source certificate, its translation and a sworn or affirmed affidavit completed by the translator. A NAATI translation alone is not the affidavit and does not replace court filing requirements.

If your marriage certificate must be translated and sworn for court or legal use, see our Chinese-language service page: 宣誓书(Affidavit)NAATI 认证翻译及 JP 签署配合.

3. Australian certificate for China, Taiwan or another overseas authority

The receiving overseas authority decides whether it needs a Chinese translation, a certified copy, Notary Public notarisation, DFAT Apostille or Authentication, consular processing, or a combination. Confirm the destination country and institution before ordering; Australian NAATI certification does not automatically replace those separate steps.

Choose the correct country-specific service

For certificates issued elsewhere, send a clear sample for a written quote. Price, delivery time, digital PDF and paper-copy options are confirmed before payment; no unverified universal price or delivery promise is made on this multi-country page.

Original, scan and certified-copy boundary

  • For quoting and translation, send a clear colour scan or photo of every relevant page, including seals, stamps, annotations and reverse sides.
  • Provide passport spelling or the receiving institution’s required English name format when names appear in Chinese characters.
  • Whether the application also requires the original certificate, a certified copy, a colour scan, an affidavit, metadata or another supporting record is decided by the receiving institution.
  • Do not omit pages or crop context unless the receiving institution has confirmed that an extract is sufficient.

NAATI certified translation is not the same as a JP-certified copy, statutory declaration, affidavit, Notary Public notarisation, DFAT Apostille or Authentication, consular legalisation, or approval of the underlying application.

What the translation includes

  • Translation of visible names, dates, registration details, seals, stamps and annotations within the agreed scope.
  • Translator certification details appropriate to the service and language direction.
  • Digital PDF delivery and paper-copy options as confirmed in the quote.
  • Correction of attributable translation errors under the agreed service terms.

A receiving institution’s rejection caused by the wrong document type, missing source pages, an unmet original/certified-copy requirement, legal validity, evidence weight or application eligibility is not a translation error.

How to order

  1. Send a clear sample and state the issuing country, source language and target language.
  2. Name the receiving institution, application, destination country and deadline.
  3. Confirm whether you need PDF, paper copies, full-document translation or an institution-approved extract.
  4. 澳洲ABC翻译(ABC Translation Australia) confirms scope, price and delivery time before payment.
  5. Review names, dates and page order when the translation is delivered.

Frequently asked questions

Do Australian visa applications require an English translation?

Home Affairs instructs applicants to translate non-English documents into English. The exact document, translator details, source-document format and upload requirements come from the relevant visa page, ImmiAccount checklist or departmental request.

Does NAATI certification guarantee acceptance?

No. NAATI certification identifies the translator’s credential and translated work; the receiving institution decides relevance, format, source-document requirements and the result.

Is a NAATI translation the same as notarisation?

No. Translation, certified copies, affidavits, Notary Public work, DFAT Apostille/Authentication and consular processing are separate functions.

Can I send only a scan?

A clear scan is normally sufficient for us to quote and translate. It does not mean a scan alone will satisfy the receiving institution; check whether the original or a certified copy must also be submitted.

How much does marriage certificate translation cost?

Use the relevant China, Taiwan or Australian certificate service page for current document-specific pricing. Other countries and non-standard certificates are quoted after review. Price and delivery time are confirmed before payment.

Can you guarantee visa, court or overseas acceptance?

No. We translate the agreed document accurately; the responsible institution decides document acceptance, legal effect, evidence weight and application outcome.
