Non-English bank statements, payslips and scholarship documents from Taiwan need English translations when submitted for an Australian Visitor visa (subclass 600) Tourist stream application outside Australia. Submit the source documents with their translations.
A complete English document officially issued by the bank needs no further English translation.

This guide covers offshore 600 Tourist stream applications by Taiwanese applicants and foreign nationals in Taiwan. Translation follows document language, not nationality. Ordinary Taiwan passport holders also have an ETA route for eligible short visits. Australian Office
Does the translator need NAATI certification if I am in Taiwan?
For Australian Visitor visa 600 offshore Tourist stream applications, translators in Australia need NAATI accreditation and must include their practitioner number. Translators outside Australia need not be NAATI-accredited, but every translation must state their full name, address, phone number, and qualifications and experience in the translated language, in English. The rule concerns the translator’s location, not the applicant’s; applicants in Taiwan can use Australian translators. Home Affairs; visitor visa guidance
Is the bank document fully in English, partly in Chinese, or only a balance certificate?
A Taiwan bank’s complete official English document needs no further translation—a practical reading of Home Affairs’ non-English-document rule. Chinese descriptions or notes require translation alongside the source document. An English balance certificate shows a balance, not an itemised transaction history. Check your ImmiAccount checklist and any further-information request before selecting documents. Home Affairs
| Document | What to prepare |
|---|---|
| Official English transaction statement | Complete bank-issued pages, including the account holder, period, transactions and notes |
| Chinese statement or passbook pages | Source pages for the period being submitted and their English translation |
| English balance certificate | Check whether transaction records are also requested; a balance is not transaction history |
| Chinese payslip, part-time income or scholarship document | Source document and English translation when included to explain income or funds |
Home Affairs lists three-month itemised bank statements and payslips as examples. It requires funds for the stay and departure. Home Affairs
How should payslips and part-time income match the bank credits?
Match Taiwan payslips or part-time payment evidence to bank credits by payer, pay period, net amount, currency and credit date; use net rather than gross pay. For date differences, split payments, another payer name or missing payslips, ask the employer or bank for existing records explaining the payment. Do not change figures or invent records. This concerns existing Taiwan income, not planned work in Australia. Home Affairs separately cites payslips, employer leave letters and enrolment evidence for reasons to return. Visitor visa guidance
What does a scholarship letter show compared with a scholarship payment?
A Taiwan scholarship approval records an award; a bank credit shows payment received. Preserve the amount, currency, period, lump-sum or instalment terms and permitted use, including tuition or living costs, when translating. Approval is not money already received, and a tuition-only award is not freely available travel cash. Check for separate Chinese conditions requiring translation even when the institution’s official letter is in English.
How should I prepare source documents, translations and multi-page statements?
An online Australian Visitor visa 600 offshore Tourist stream application needs non-English source documents and their English translations. Scan or photograph all English and non-English documents in colour, clearly and completely; save each multi-page document as one file. Do not crop statements to a balance or payment row. This does not mean posting paper originals. Unless Home Affairs asks, documents need not be certified; copy certification is separate from translator credentials. Home Affairs
Keep original PDFs or complete images and check names, dates, currency, amounts and page numbers. For Chinese names or different Roman-letter spellings, identify the link to passport spelling. Ask the issuer to confirm or correct source errors; keep explanations separate and never cover or alter transaction text. Translation cannot supply missing bank or employer records.
