Arrange your household transcript translation
ABC Translation Australia is an Australian registered business, ABN 51 427 138 466. Established in 2013.
Using your Taiwan household record in Australia
A household registration transcript (戶籍謄本) records information held by Taiwan’s household registration authorities. An English translation makes the Chinese details and annotations readable for the person assessing your documents.
- Family and partner visa documents: translate the Chinese household record you are submitting as family or identity evidence. Home Affairs requires non-English documents supplied for a family visa application to be translated into English. A translation completed in Australia must include the translator’s NAATI practitioner number. This does not mean every applicant must obtain a Taiwan household transcript.
- Citizenship by descent: Home Affairs lists a family or household registration document as an alternative when a full birth certificate cannot be provided. For applicants aged 15 or younger, it must show their parents’ details. Use the evidence checklist for that application.
- Connecting current and previous names: the same citizenship checklist asks for official documents linking a current name with previous names. A Taiwan transcript containing the relevant name-change annotation can be translated to explain that entry. We preserve the recorded names and dates; translation cannot add a missing name-change record.
For Home Affairs, supply the Chinese document together with its English translation. The translation communicates the source record; it does not decide eligibility or an application outcome.
You can arrange this service for yourself, a Taiwanese partner or a family member. Lawyers, migration professionals and other people helping prepare documents can provide the relevant checklist or document request with the enquiry.
Already have a government-issued English transcript?
You do not need to buy a separate Chinese-to-English translation if your government-issued English transcript contains the required evidence and is accepted for your application. Check the actual entries in your document before ordering.
| Option | Who provides it | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| English household registration transcript | A Taiwan household registration office issues the English document. | Check that the issued version includes the people, relationships and annotations requested for your application. |
| Chinese transcript with a NAATI-certified English translation | You provide the Chinese transcript. Our NAATI-certified translators translate its visible content into English. | Provide the complete relevant pages, continuation sheets, annotations and stamps. Keep the Chinese record with the translation. |
Taiwan’s rules for issuing English household registration transcripts focus personal annotations on identity entries; other annotations can be excerpted on request. Only the latest household relocation entry is translated under those rules.
Government-issued English transcripts can include name-change entries: Hualien City Household Registration Office’s guidance expressly lists them. The question is whether your particular transcript contains the record needed, rather than whether all English versions are suitable or unsuitable.
Translation price and delivery
AUD $59 per page with content includes the NAATI-certified English PDF. Count each side separately: a sheet with writing on both sides is 2 pages. Continuation pages with content are charged in the same way; completely blank sides are not charged.
| Pages with content | PDF + standard post | PDF + express post | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 page | $59 | $61 | $69 |
| 2 pages | $118 | $120 | $128 |
Paper delivery within Australia is optional: standard post adds $2 per order; express post adds $10 per order. These delivery charges are added once per order, rather than once for each translated page. Express post changes paper delivery only; it does not shorten the standard PDF turnaround.
The standard PDF is emailed within 12 hours after payment and receipt of clear, complete files and the required English name spellings. Paper delivery follows separately: allow approximately 2–6 business days after dispatch for standard post, or 1–2 business days for express post to major Australian cities.
More than 2 pages? Contact us to confirm the page count and payment arrangement. If you submit 2 chargeable pages but pay for 1, we will contact you about payment for the additional page. Include your deadline when enquiring.
What to send for translation
Send clear photographs or a PDF of the complete transcript you need translated. You do not need to post the original to us.
- All relevant pages and sides: include continuation sheets, the notes or annotations section (記事), changes recorded on the document, official stamps and any reverse-side content. Keep all four corners visible.
- English name spellings: provide the passport spellings for each person named, including parents, children or other household members. Tell us about previous names and any spelling differences before translation.
- The requested document type: confirm whether your application calls for an individual or whole-household transcript, a current household record or a Household Registration Cancellation Transcript (除戶戶籍謄本). Translation cannot turn one type into another.
- Purpose and deadline: tell us which application or organisation the translation is for, and include any specific written instructions about the required entries or format.
If a family member in Taiwan photographs the document for you, they can send you the images for your order. When text is blurred or cut off, we identify the part needing a new photograph before translating it; we do not guess missing information.
Do not crop out entries because they appear unrelated. If you are unsure which pages are needed, send the complete record for a page-count check before paying.
How the translation works
- Prepare the complete record. Gather clear files, the English spellings of all names and the document request for your application.
- Confirm the pages and delivery. Check the number of chargeable sides, the total price and whether you need PDF only or optional paper delivery.
- Confirm the order and payment. Provide the complete documents through the agreed submission method. The 12-hour standard PDF period starts once payment and the required information are received.
- Receive and check the translation. Our Chinese-to-English NAATI-certified translators complete and stamp the translation. Check the names and personal details in the emailed PDF before submitting it with the source record.
Experience with Taiwan household records
Our conservative estimate, based on WeChat enquiries and actual order records, is more than 250 Taiwan household registration transcript translations per year in recent years. This is ABC Translation Australia’s first-party business estimate, not a government statistic.
Those records indicate an average processing time of approximately 4 hours. Individual orders vary; our standard delivery commitment remains within 12 hours after payment and complete information are received.
A name-change record for an immigration application
In August 2026, a customer needed Taiwan household registration records as evidence of a name change for an Australian immigration application. The customer already had an English transcript issued by a Taiwan household registration office. Their immigration lawyer considered that version’s information insufficient to explain the particular name change and requested a NAATI-certified English translation of the Chinese transcript.
We delivered the translation within 12 hours of receiving the complete documents and payment. This anonymised example describes one order; it does not establish a document requirement for every immigration application or mean that government-issued English transcripts always lack name-change information.
Frequently asked questions
Can I order from Taiwan or arrange this for a family member?
Yes. You can arrange the translation online from Taiwan or Australia, including for a partner or family member. Provide clear, complete files and the passport English spellings for everyone named. You do not need to visit an office.
Should I translate an individual or a whole-household transcript?
Translate the version that contains the people and entries requested for your application. A whole-household transcript and an individual transcript have different coverage. We translate the document supplied; we cannot add relatives or annotations missing from the source.
Do notes, stamps and both sides need to be included?
Include all relevant content, including notes, stamps, continuation pages and reverse-side entries. Each side with content counts as one chargeable page. Completely blank sides do not attract a translation fee.
What if a family member’s English name is unknown or differs between documents?
Tell us before translation and provide any available passport or other official English spelling. We will confirm what needs checking. A translation must reflect the original record accurately; it cannot correct an official record or add a link between names that the source does not record.
Is NAATI translation the same as notarisation or a certified copy?
No. NAATI certifies translators, who use a physical or digital stamp to certify their translations. A certified copy and notarisation are separate procedures. This service provides the English translation, not those additional services. If your document request calls for them, send the exact instruction with your enquiry. See NAATI’s explanation of translator stamps.
Can I translate a birth certificate or identity card in the same order?
Yes, tell us which other Taiwan documents your application requires. Each document keeps its own source record, page count and translation. You can review our Taiwan birth certificate translation service or Taiwan document translation services. Order only the documents needed for your task.
