The 12-hour turnaround is for the PDF translation. Postal delivery takes additional time; the PDF is emailed first. Printed-copy options are for delivery within Australia. Contact us before ordering a printed copy to an overseas address.

What your translation includes

Your English translation covers the visible information in the Chinese birth certificate: names, birth details, parents’ details, issuing information, stamps and annotations. We check the English spellings you provide while preserving the facts recorded in the original.

The PDF includes the translator’s NAATI certification details and signature. Read how to verify a NAATI translator if you would like to understand the practitioner-number check.

The translation accompanies your Taiwan document. It does not issue a new birth certificate or add information missing from the original.

Using your Taiwan birth certificate in Australia

Australian visa applications: when your application requires a Chinese birth certificate, prepare its English translation alongside the source document. Home Affairs requires English translations of non-English supporting documents and the translator’s NAATI practitioner number for translations completed in Australia. See Home Affairs’ document and translation guidance.

Our guide to birth certificate translation for Australian visas explains the difference between needing a birth certificate and needing a translation of that certificate.

Australian passport applications: if your application requires your Taiwan birth certificate, its non-English content needs a full translation stamped by an accredited translator. The Australian Passport Office directs applicants in Australia to NAATI; for applications overseas, it directs applicants to their Australian embassy or consulate for approved translation services. See the Passport Office’s translation requirements.

Read our birth certificate translation guide for Australian passport applications for the document and identity checks. Keep the original certificate available for any application that requires it.

Prepare these details before ordering

Already have a hospital-issued English birth certificate? Check whether you need another translation before ordering.

  • A clear, complete scan or photo of your Taiwan Chinese birth certificate, with no cropped text or stamps.
  • Your official English name as shown in your current passport.
  • Your parents’ English names as shown in their passports, if available. If they do not have passports, provide their names in Roman letters for the translator to check.
  • An email address for delivery of the certified PDF.
  • Any written instructions about the translation’s format or supporting documents for your application.

If you have a household registration transcript, use our Taiwan household registration transcript translation service (English). A household transcript and a hospital birth certificate are different documents; translating one does not make it the other.

For other Taiwan documents, see our Taiwan document translation services.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a translation if my Taiwan birth certificate is already in English?

If your hospital-issued English birth certificate contains the required information and is accepted for your application, you do not need to buy another translation of the same content. If the hospital cannot issue an English version, we can translate your existing Chinese birth certificate.

An English household registration transcript is a different document. Compare the exact document requested with the one you hold before ordering.

Can I order from Australia if my birth certificate is still in Taiwan?

Yes. Arrange a clear, complete scan or photo of the certificate and order online. We can prepare and email this translation without you returning to Taiwan or mailing us the original. Obtaining a replacement certificate or arranging a separate authentication procedure is a different task.

Does a birth-certificate upload field mean my student visa application requires one?

Check the document checklist for your visa subclass and circumstances, together with any written request in ImmiAccount. An upload category or the length of your course is not a reason on its own to purchase a birth certificate translation. Home Affairs explains how to find the document requirements for your visa subclass.

Do I need notarisation or authentication as well as NAATI translation?

A request for an English translation does not itself mean you also need notarisation or authentication. For a partner visa or another Australian application, check whether the written document instructions separately ask for those steps.

This order provides an English translation completed and stamped by a NAATI-certified translator. It does not include a JP-certified copy, notarisation or authentication. If the instructions ask for an original document or a certified copy, prepare that item as well; a translation does not replace it.

What if the name on my birth certificate differs from my passport?

Provide your current passport’s English spelling and tell us whether the difference is a spelling variation or a formal change of name. We preserve the information in the source certificate rather than silently replacing an old name with a new one. Your application may separately require change-of-name or other linking evidence.

If an early birth record has no name, or a parent’s name is missing, we cannot insert that information into the translation.

Should I upload the back of my birth certificate?

Yes, if the reverse contains writing, stamps, seals or annotations. Include every page with content, with the edges and details clearly visible. Do not leave out an official stamp because it is on the back: the translator needs the complete document to translate its visible content.
